It’s not quite a decade old, but in Smith Street years, Cocoro feels almost vintage. The pottery-filled interior is a little dated but somehow comforting. A long menu runs the gamut of sashimi, salads, protein and noodle dishes. You could happily start by sharing some just-warm, Kilpatrick-esque sake soy oysters or delicate grilled scallops, served in the half shell with a moreish plum and butter sauce. Sashimi is fresh and beautifully presented but it’s the perfectly crisp, deep-fried wafu chicken with ponzu and mayo that’s the standout - with the kind of delicious magnetism that incites repeat visits and borderline addiction.
