The stainless-steel benches and doughnut-shaped fluorescent lights contrast starkly with the grand facade of this historic 24-hour hotel in the heart of Sydney. But if you can get past the spaceship-inspired refurb, there's some decent grub to enjoy. If you can't, head upstairs to Mezz Bar, a dining room with tablecloths and large windows, where an extended menu applies. The $12 deals include a T-bone steak that comes cooked perfectly to order with crisp, thick-cut chips and a fresh salad. Indian-inspired menu items come from the influence of a Bangladeshi on the kitchen staff, and the Bombay lamb curry outdoes expectations.
