2009 Shaw and Smith M3 Chardonnay

Variety Chardonnay
RRP 40

The Adelaide Hills is a consistent performer when it comes to chardonnay and the M3 keeps getting better as this, its ninth vintage, shows. There is a lovely fruit component — think ripe melons and figs with a touch of citrus — but this is neither heavy nor sweet and it is definitely not a fruit-driven wine. It is a structured and satisfying chardonnay. While enjoyable on its own, it is better with food, particularly fish such as pan-fried rock ling with a lemon butter sauce or a spicy vegetable melange.
