Gemtree is farmed biodynamically and certified organic. It's owned by the Buttery family, with the help of recent Chinese investment. This wine is a classic example of the great buys that abound from the superb 2010 vintage. The colour is deep with black tinges and a purple rim; the aromas are of blackberry, dark plum and violets, with a lick of discreet toasty, savoury oak. There are spices galore throughout the wine. In the mouth, concentration is the key word. It's a quite muscular wine of density, fleshy texture, drying tannins and a long finish. Drink now to 2025. 14.5 per cent alcohol.
Food: All red meats, especially grilled and barbecued; hard cheeses.
