Brian Croser used to talk about the "dry, late-picked" style of Clare riesling that he pursued at Petaluma - and this one, made by Glen Barry, is a good example. While some make a very refined, long-ageing, early-picked style with just 11 per cent alcohol, this is riper at 13 per cent, and more approachable young. It's light yellow in colour and the fragrant aromas are floral, recalling lavender and other flowers. Already open and accessible, it's subtle and soft, clean and pure in the mouth, with concentration and richness within a delicate framework. Best drinking now to 2020. 13 per cent alcohol.
