Fans of sparkling wine (our hands are up) will be pleased to hear of the success of a Tumbarumba sparkling at the Australian Sparkling Wine Awards.

Courabyra 805 2011 Pinot Noir Chardonnay Pinot Meunier won the wine of the show at the awards in Victoria, beating about 200 others from around the country. Courabyra Wines is owned by sister and brother Cathy Gairn and Stephen Morrison.

Tumbarumba is rapidly gaining a stellar reputation for chardonnay and pinot noir, and the bubbly that uses both grapes to such great effect.

Canberra winemaking star Alex McKay makes the Courabyra wines, but not the sparkling, and Nick Spencer, another local, uses fruit from the Courabyra vineyard in his pinots and chardonnays.
