Glen Waverley is in the midst of a restaurant revival. All-day diner Workshop Brothers opened last month serving Hong Kong egg waffles, White Mojo is gearing up to launch a shiny new third store on Kingsway, and Little Sister replaced Richmond Oysters last week, just next door.

Richmond Oysters group executive chef Antony Henare says that despite being part of the family, Little Sister is nothing like Richmond Oysters.

"The menu starts at $6 and the highest priced dish is $28, so we can really get a lot of food and a lot flavours in front of people," he says. With mod-Asian master Kam McManamey (ex-Dandelion, Rock Sugar, Botherambo and Bangpop) and Kevin Nguyen (ex-Jardin Tan) cooking Vietnamese and Thai, "a lot of flavours" is right.

Crispy lattice spring rolls stuffed with tofu, black fungus, mountain pepper, kaffir lime and nuoc cham represent Vietnam, but crisp skinned pork hock sticky with tamarind chilli leans towards Thailand. Also on the menu is bao, pho and curries, with a Supernormal-esque peanut butter parfait and pretty and textural Asian-inspired desserts to finish.

The two-storey, 130-seat restaurant had a minor refurb, reinforcing the casual vibe with homely cushions and wok skimmers on the walls. When not being used for events, the upstairs cocktail bar mixes drinks with names like Thai firecracker. One could argue that Little Sister is overdoing it with pho puns plastered on every surface, but we think they're pho-nomenal.

Open daily 11.30am-10pm.
