Mentone is beginning to bulge with a building boom, and with the increase in apartment-dwellers comes a growing demand for a smart little spot for good, all-day dining.

Fortunately, the Longroom has landed, bringing with it a broad menu that rotates with the seasons.

The Longroom – a collaboration between burgermeister Anthony Pinzone, his cousin Sam Pinzone, who's worked with Neil Perry, Jacques Reymond and Paul Wilson, and head chef Jamie Garcia – occupies a spacious corner site, flanked by outdoor seating.

The interior melds warmth with an industrial vibe through a combination of concrete floors, golden lights, slate-coloured walls and spilling ferns.

From Friday to Sunday, a compact breakfast menu runs until noon, featuring elevated favourites such as fragrant spiced black rice and quinoa porridge, before the kitchen moves into lunch and dinner terrain with neat share plates of jalapeno and cheddar croquettes, blackened fish tacos and bigger offerings including paella.

With an almost exclusively Australian wine list, it's also a cracking spot for a sunset drink.
