A bit of high tea and history

Melbourne cafe entrepreneurs Jason M. Jones and Theo Tsapepas have won the tender to open up in Como House's stables.

The pair, of management group ICKE & IGBY, also own Richmond's Friends of Mine, Balwyn's Snow Pony, and Porgie & Mr Jones in Hawthorn. They won the National Trust's approval to revamp the cafe, previously Bursaria. The Stables cafe reopened in conjunction with the grand historic house, which has been closed for renovations for 18 months.

The house, gardens and cafe will be open every day except Christmas day and entry to the gardens is free. Jones says the Stables will serve breakfast and lunch, high tea and Devonshire tea, and will provide prepacked picnics to eat in the grounds, as well as catering weddings and other functions in Como House's ballroom.

The Stables at Como and Como House will be open Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm and Sunday, 10am-5pm.
