It’s become a bit of a fixture in the inner north – the Sly Fox Coffee stand on the grass beside the bike path in O’Connor, serving up coffee, cakes and other nibbles to commuters heading into the city every morning. And now it’s turning one.

The man behind the much-loved operation, Patrick Dillon, is celebrating Sly Fox’s first year of operation with a little birthday dinner on January 31. He describes the past year as magical (‘‘I’m loving it’’) and says he’s renewed his hawker’s licence for another year.

Dillon can be found on the cycle path between Macarthur and David streets in O’Connor, making coffees from Tuesday to Friday from 7.45am to about 11.30am. On weekends he does events.

The birthday event is on January 31 at the Sly Fox stand from 4.30pm. It’s open to all but Dillon is only expecting a small gathering (well, he was until we called him and wanted to put the item in Morsels). So if you do come along, bring a plate of food to share, a musical instrument to play, and say hello. Happy birthday Sly Fox, and may there be many more to come.
