Black Star Pastry has opened its long-awaited second Sydney store in Rosebery (cnr Dunning Ave and Hayes Road), with owner Christopher The observing it has a separate personality from the Newtown original.

"It's a different vibe. In Newtown people hang around a lot more, here they are in and out for lunch," he explains.

There's plenty of reason they hang around. Black Star made its reputation with killer sweet treats, the Rosebery store also has a wood-fired oven churning out stuffed chicken which is then stuffed into sandwiches.

"We want to do more substantial meals down the track, but we are already doing a salad with pork loin and one with blue cheese, pickled pear and endive."

Can other parts of Sydney expect to see a Black Star? "It's taken me five years to get the courage up to open this one," The says. So we'll take that as a no … for now.
