One of Brisbane's oldest hotels is hosting a dinner with a difference, offering diners the opportunity to eat the final meal of a death-row prisoner.

The Transcontinental in George Street, which was built in 1884, is teaming up with Sydney's Rocks Brewing Co. to host the death-row dinner.

The hotel's marketing manager Vikki Blinks said while they had considered the theme could be "a bit dark", they had "concentrated on the food rather than the crimes" of three condemned American death-row prisoners.

"We found there were some pretty weird and wonderful last meals out there. We tried to choose three that spread out the offerings a bit because we didn't think anyone would want to eat a kilogram of ice-cream for dinner." Incidentally, the ice-cream was Ben & Jerry's mint chocolate chip, and was the final meal of Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh (d. 2001).

The three death-row meals on offer are serial killer Ted Bundy's last supper of medium rare steak, eggs over easy, toast with butter and hash browns (d.1989); John Wayne Gacy aka The Clown Killer's bucket of fried chicken served with French fries, fried shrimp and strawberries (d.1994); and, not for the small of appetite or arteries, murderer Jeffrey Dillingham's triple cheeseburger (no mayo), five eggs, fries, lasagne, garlic bread, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon rolls and nacho cheese (d.2000).

The meals are matched with Rocks beers, including the aptly named conviction IPA, the butcher porter and the governor golden ale.

The death-row dinner will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 17, and costs $45 including matching beer. Bookings: (07) 3236 1366.
