Have you ever heard of the "European" version of nachos?

A disgruntled customer has taken to social media to complain took to about a $15 plate of nachos she received while on a wine tour which appeared to be 'nacho' average serving size.

Ashlin McCamish posted a photo of the bare-looking plate of corn chips she allegedly ordered from German restaurant Elmar in the Valley's on Saturday afternoon, which appeared to have a just a splash of tomato sauce and a bit of melted cheese on the side.

"These nachos cost $15. Not sure if we got mistaken for members of a wine tour because we look young, and therefore apparently aren't worth decent service but this is a total rip-off," she said.

The response she received from Elmar's:

"Hi Ashlin. Thank you for your feedback received. I do apologise that you were not happy with our form of nachos on the menu. Our version of nachos is not a soggier kind that you are accustomed to that has loads of sauce. We have opted to sell a European version which showcases corn chips and not copious amounts of sauce," it read.

Elmar's claimed the dish was a European version of nachos.

The restaurant then questioned Ms McCamish's claim she was not on a wine tour.

"Looking at our records here, you did appear to arrive on a wine tour, however, this makes no difference to us. We will serve our food as intended for everyone and will not discriminate against groups or families.

"Again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. All comments received are taken seriously and we hope to see you soon."

Other punters were confused by the response, and the question everyone wanted answered was: what are 'European nachos'?

"European version? You are surely taking the p--s. Just admit it's not good enough and apologise. Don't go making these poor excuses," one person said.

"European version? Aka [sic] a bag of chips dropped on a plate. You should've stuck with the South American version, you know, with actual ingredients!" another said.

Some European locals also appeared on the thread to defend their interpretation of the classic Mexican dish.

"You must be having a laugh, I'm European and this is definitely NOT how we do nachos over here."

The restaurant confirmed it would be making changes to the menu following Ms McCamish's constructive criticism.

"We are listening! It is new on our winter menu which was launched today and we will make sure that we keep our punters happy and meet your expectations. We are adding more sauce and more of good stuff too."

Elmar's has been contacted for comment.
