Chef Matt Stone, formerly of Greenhouse in Perth and Brothl in Melbourne, and his chef partner Jo Barrett (ex Tivoli Road), have let go of their plans to open Bakeshop cafe in Brunswick, with a native Australian focus, and opted for a tree change.

The couple have taken the reins of the restaurant at Oakridge Wines in Coldstream, with Stone as head chef and Barrett as sous chef.

"We want to spend the first six weeks or so getting to know the Yarra Valley," says Stone, who, with Barrett, is establishing a kitchen garden and a menu of mostly regional produce, including no ocean-going fish, instead using trout, caviar, eel and Murray cod grown in the valley.

Their first full menu will be implemented early in September.
