The S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, organised by Restaurant magazine, will be held in London on April 29. The awards, now in their 11th year, are presented in the company of restaurateurs, chefs and media from around the world. The event sets off an international Twitter frenzy, with guests tweeting each ranking as it is announced. The evening culminates in the coveted title, S. Pellegrino world's best restaurant. Other award categories include the world's best female chef, the lifetime achievement award, the chefs' choice award and, new for 2013, the sustainable restaurant award. Sydney's Quay was the only Australian restaurant in the 2012 top 50 (No. 29), and only one Melbourne restaurant - Ripponlea's Attica - made the top 100, coming in at No. 63. It led some in the industry to question the awards' credibility. But with more of the list's voters having eaten in Victoria in the past year, we may see more sneak on to the 2013 list.
