Australia enjoys the world's longest lychee season, from October to March, with the harvest peaking in December and January. Choose bright-pink fruit and store in the fridge.

Kumatoes are brown tomatoes that look like a heritage variety but are a relatively new commercial introduction. Unlike many commercial tomatoes, they have great flavour. They are available in two sizes and taste best when not refrigerated.

In the vegie patch

Sow lettuce and rocket on the south side of climbing beans or tomatoes for protection against the sun.
