Sophie O'Neil's weekly round-up of the top seasonal picks in fruit and vegetables.
NEW IN
Pretty peonies are in season, and bunches of the delicate blooms can be found at the markets. Their short season wraps up in mid to late December.
WORTH THEIR WEIGHT
Sugar snaps and snow peas are in season, but Cardinia farmer John Hobson says snaps are usually more expensive because their bushes are smaller and less productive than snow peas'.
AT THEIR BEST
The cool start to spring delayed the growth of lettuce and salad leaves but, as we march into summer, leaves are larger, growing faster and full of flavour. A great time for salads.
IN THE VEGIE PATCH
For folk with stone fruit trees it's time to get the nets out and cover the trees to ensure you have some pickings before the birds start helping themselves.

Saturday, December 1: Echuca, Golden Plains (Bannockburn), Kingston, Koonwarra, Woodend, Veg Out (St Kilda); Sunday, December 2: Castlemaine, Flemington, Hurstbridge.
