George Calombaris's Kew wholefood cafe Mastic is having a treechange, shifting to a Mornington Peninsula eco retreat in 2018.
Former Swisse vitamin company CEO Radek Sali, who also has a stake in Calombaris's Greek street food chain Jimmy Grants, bought the Red Hill property for $2.6 million late last year.
Hummingbird Eco Retreat, next to 29 hectares of National Trust bushland, already has on-site accommodation, conference facilities, a day spa and an existing restaurant.
"We're excited to take Mastic to the peninsula, a region that screams 'good stuff' in every way," Calombaris was quoted as saying in a media release. "The best local produce, local suppliers within arm's reach, and fresh air. It makes sense."
Mastic will continue to focus on "the Hellenic Diet with a wholesome twist, lifestyle, health and happiness", says Calombaris, who is overseas filming the upcoming series of MasterChef.
Mastic's closure in Kew will allow busy Hellenic Republic to expand into the shared Cotham Road space.
An announcement about the 2018 opening date for Mastic in Red Hill is expected later this year.
Jimmy Grants, meanwhile, has opened its first interstate store in Robina, on Queensland's Gold Coast, the first stage of a bid to make the souvlaki chain an internationally recognised brand.
