Not one for fancy names, the team from Gerard's Bistro in James Street launched their new bar this week, just across the laneway from the bistro. Gerard's Bar adds to the growing portfolio of the Moubment Group, who also own Hatch & Co, Laruche and Lychee Lounge.

Tucked away from the bustle of James Street, the bar's design carries through elements of Gerard's Bistro, with a long sit up bar, and decor combining raw materials, soft lighting and reflective finishes. There's also a leafy courtyard for al fresco drinking and dining.

"Our vision was to create a space where people can immerse themselves in their surroundings and become involved in the creation of their food and drink. We want guests to lose track of time when they step into the bar," says co-owner Elie Moubarak.

With a menu created by Gerard's Bistro chef Ben Williamson, including a range of artisan meat, house made salumi and "vegetarian charcuterie" sliced in front of you, the bar encourages lingering over a wine or two.

The drinks list includes a range of wine, sherry, beer and spirits designed to match the food offering.

Details: Gerard's Bar, 13A/23 James Street, Fortitude Valley, 07 3252 2602, open daily from 2pm until late.
