An update on Longsong, David Moyle and Longrain fans. You'll be waiting until at least March for the bar above John and Lisa van Haandel's Thai stalwart to open. But you can get a first taste of the menu this Friday at an exclusive preview for Good Food Month.

According to Moyle, the chef who has drawn the world's eye to Hobart with Franklin, the venue will follow a similar Thai-leaning line to Longrain, but it will essentially be its own entity.

The menu will focus heavily on drink-friendly skewers and betel leaves, with a grill adding some more substantial dishes. Drinks-wise, they've also confirmed the bar will serve custom wines and spirits from local producers.

The gigantic former horse stable is also destined to have a big, open rooftop replete with trees.

Tickets for Friday's post-work preview, including drinks and snacks, are $60 at goodfoodmonth.com/melbourne
