Move over Surry Hills and Chippendale, frenetic opening action has found new fertile fields.
Orange, in central NSW, already rich in dining and drinking venues, welcomed Good Eddy, a cafe with lashings of urban cool this month, and last weekend the saloon doors swung open at Percy's Bar & Kitchen.
"It is inspired by Sydney's small bar movement," says co-owner Fraser Haughton. Haughton and business partner Chris Cornforth, worked in Sydney's hospitality and small bar scene before pinpointing Orange. "It has a strong food and wine culture, and it is a decent size with about 40,000 people," Haughton says of the city's pull. The duo will also introduce another hot Sydney trend, opening a burger venue on its ground floor. Already possessing a toqued restaurant, providores and tasting rooms, the only thing Orange is seemingly short of now is a giant orange on the outskirts of town.
