The term "pop-up" barely applies, given that the Hortus Project is due to run for 18 months. The temporary glasshouse, which opens at Docklands later this week, will feature a plant installation, outdoor landscaped area and a cafe. It's a collaboration between Utopian Folk - art curators Utopian Slumps and Folk Architects - and Carlton speciality coffee roaster Seven Seeds.
The initiative, by the City of Melbourne and Places Victoria, is designed to give Docklands' residents a place to meet, says Seven Seeds co-owner Bridget Amor.
She has overseen the set-up of the 40-seat cafe, which will source cakes, pastries and sandwiches from places such as Rustica Bakery in Fitzroy and Yarraville's Cobb Lane, and play around with various coffee extraction methods and machinery.
Details: Hortus will open daily at 131-141 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands.
