Jacques Reymond names closure date

Jane Holroyd

The calls from loyal customers have been flooding in from far and wide since Jacques Reymond announced his retirement at The Age Good Food Guide awards on Monday night. ‘‘We’ve had calls from Fiji, Hong Kong, Scotland...’’ Kathy Reymond said today. ‘‘Perhaps we should be like John Farnham and just never end it.’’

But even really good things must come to an end, so fans of Reymond’s food take note: Dinner on Saturday December 21 is the final sitting at Prahran’s big-occasion dining icon. The restaurant, winner of 80 Good Food Guide hats in its 25 years of operation, is now booked out for weekend dining until the end of November...

It will re-open January 15th as Woodland House under Reymond’s long-serving deputies, Thomas Woods and Hayden McFarland. Woods said the menu will stay pitched to fine-dining, but will move away from French cuisine to ‘‘broader European and contemporary elegance with lots of Australian flavours’’. Diners will have degustation and a-la-carte options, just as they did with Jacques.
