Just open: Stokehouse City

• Plans for new Stokehouse restaurant selected

Frank and Sharon van Haandel have maintained their momentum since fire razed their iconic St Kilda restaurant Stokehouse on January 17. Last week, they threw open the doors on Stokehouse City, which has had a rapid redesign by Pascale Gomes-McNabb. She's known for her work at Cumulus Inc, Cutler & Co and Claude's in Sydney, and was awarded the Australian Interior Design Award for her design of the Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant in Adelaide, and the Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Award, Best Hospitality Interior, for her work at Sydney's Yellow restaurant.

Stokehouse City's upstairs dining room, called Upstairs, seats 140. Head chef Oliver Gould has created a menu of entrees, mains and pasta dishes, including kingfish carpaccio with baby fennel and bottarga, roasted lamb loin with smoked eel mousse and a one-kilogram Angus beef rib-eye.

The ground floor bar, called Downstairs, has room for 80 and a bar menu. A speakeasy will open Thursday to Saturday nights.
