Lasagne cook-off

It's the great lasagna cook-off.
It's the great lasagna cook-off.
This is a bit of an odd one. Local pollie John Barilaro is getting ready to battle a Queanbeyan hotelier. Well, he’ll be cooking lasagne. Barilaro is squaring off against chef Michael Bagley in a public cook-off on February 5 in an attempt to win pasta bragging rights. The loser donates money to a charity, the Queanbeyan Special Needs Group.
Barilaro, the NSW state MP for Monaro, boasts that he once cooked lasagne for an entire town (Bibbenluke, NSW, whose population is variously given as 182 or 302). ‘‘I’ve got 200 years of family tradition behind my recipe, so I am surprised that Mick has accepted my challenge so readily,’’ he says in a press statement.
Bagley, who runs the restaurant Michael’s at the Walsh Hotel, doesn’t mince his words either. ‘‘This town isn’t big enough for both of us.’’
Both men will cook their lasagne and it will be tasted blind by a panel of expert judges. No word on whether Garfield will be among them.
The Queanbeyan lasagne showdown of 2014 is on February 5 at Walsh’s Hotel on Monaro Street at 1.30pm.
