It’s finally here: Lord of the Fries, the wildly popular Melbourne vegetarian fast-food chain. After a soft launch in mid-August that attracted long lunchtime queues, LotF’s first Sydney outlet officially opened in a tiny shopfront on George St yesterday.

The all-vego burgers (the patties are made with texturised vegetable protein), hot dogs and nuggets satisfy those fast-food urges without that slightly shameful greasy feeling, while those fries are justly famous: skin-on, twice-cooked, cripsy and fluffy, and they come with a choice of 12 sauces. And everything's certified kosher and halal. A a handy chart on the wall lets diners check which allergens are in each dish, from soy to peanuts to onion.

The only problem? There’s nowhere to sit, so it’s takeaway only.

Go-to dish: Fries with French Canadian sauce (gravy and cheese).

Address: 537 George St, Sydney
Open: Sun-Thu 10am-midnight; Fri-Sat 10am-4am.
Details: lordofthefries.com.au
