What's the lowdown?

Mary's. In Queensland. For one night only. Get down to The Cambus Wallace at Nobby Beach and get excited.

More information, please.

Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham, co-owners of Mary's, are bringing their cult burgers from Sydney to Queensland for the first time. They'll be taking over the grill at Cambus Wallace, Nobby's number one nautical-themed bar on Sunday, October 9.

"Mary's has a great energy and a lot of similarities to The Cambus Wallace in the way it begun with a few mates wanting to do something rad and fun," says Michael Tramonte, Cambus Wallace owner and Delta Riggs bass player.

"Bringing Mary's up to the Gold Coast for a takeover is a no brainer. Nothing beats a good old sloppy Mary's burger when coupled with a few lagers. The Goldy is going to lose it over this!"

Why should I care?

Because they're bloody great burgers. The kind you can eat with one hand while the other nurses XXXX Bitter or a chilled red from the Adelaide Hills.

Mary's doesn't rely on cheap tricks like triple-cheese and doughnut buns to sell its wares. It uses bang-on patties (a mixture of chuck, brisket and rump steak from O'Connor beef out of Gippsland), straight-up lettuce, tomato, cheese and onion, and ketchup the work of a delicious devil.

Anything else I need to know?

There's "trashcan bacon" if you want to add a rasher (the bacon is smoked in an unused garbage bin, before you ask) and vegetarians are catered for with an umami-packing field mushroom in place of animal-based protein.

Punters are also promised an appearance by the Mary's Metal Maids. We're still not exactly sure what that means, but here's hoping for the Mary's boys dressed in Slayer-themed drag.
