Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2014: a guide to free events

Food for Thought
Scientists will hold a public lecture and explain how water and food can affect people's cognitive function and moods.

Mordialloc Food, Wine & Music Festival
Head down to the seaside for a day of gourmet food, wine & jazz music. Festival goers will be treated to swing and salsa dance workshops as well as cooking demonstrations and children's activities.

Flavours Tea House
Take a trip around the world by sampling an array of international teas from Sri Lanka, Sudan, Korea and Australia at the high tea buffet.

Festival of Mirboo North
Mirboo North will be transformed into a food produce haven. Tour a snail farm, taste local beer made from pure mountain water and indulge in chutneys and relishes.

Crown's Food and Wine Live Site
Lining the Yarra River, the festival site will be home to waterside restaurants and pop-up bars from Rekorderlig, Matilda Bay and Treasury Wines.

Dandenong World Fare
The Dandenong Market will showcase global cuisine, inspired by some of the world's most important rivers. From the Mekong and Ganges to the Murray-Darling, immerse yourself in the aquatic adventure.

Yes! Chef
A photographic portrait exhibit by Daniel Sponiar will showcase Melbourne's top chefs in their lives beyond the working kitchen.

Southbank's promenade will host food and wine tastings, live music performances and foodie screenings.

Grab the popcorn and head to Southgate's indoor cinema where a series of foodie films will be screened.

Join the fishmongers at the Sunday markets for seafood cooking demonstration, oyster eating competitions and live sea creatures for the kids to meet.

Renowned chef Adam D'Sylva will demonstrate and discuss fine seafood cooking with fishmonger, George from George the Fishmonger. Enjoy free tastings and taste home recipes.

Murchison Tomato Festa

Port Phillip Mussel Festival
This two day seafood party will celebrate mussels, one of Australia's most loved seafood. Live music and mussel cook ups are just some of the highlights.
