Sydney looks set to break a seasonal record for new restaurant seats. Last week, Tramsheds Harold Park added 1400 across its restaurants, Artisan Lane and outdoor seating. When Barangaroo has all its food operators up and running, there will be 1200 seats across its 170 metres of waterfront. And that's just two developments.

Lotus is the latest opening at the Barangaroo development, opening its doors late last week with a seafood focused menu owner Michael Jiang describes as "Shanghainese with Cantonese influences". Jiang has lured some serious talent to Barangaroo, head chef Chris Yan and dumpling chef Johnny Leong, both ex-Billy Kwong.

The rollout continues this week, Zushi owner Raymond Ang confirming his new Barangaroo venue will open Tuesday October 4. "No weird ingredients, but we are reviving the classic sushi and sashimi boat. The good old wooden boat full of sashimi, sushi, oysters and sea urchin," Ang says.
