The doors have closed for the final time at Graceville's popular little bistro Kis Cucina.

Locals will be pleased to know, however, that an Italian restaurant, Il Viale ("The Avenue"), has moved into the space. The owner-chef is Paolo Pinci, formerly of Fratelli in Albion and before that, owner of the oddly situated, strangely named and slightly cultish Bullets at Suncorp Stadium, one of Brisbane's great foodie secrets.

Pinci, who hails from Rome, says Il Viale will offer "real Italian food" and feature some dishes from his home, such as saltimbocca and pan-fried gnocchi Romana.

"People understand now what good Italian food is," Pinci says. "I want to cover quite a lot of regional dishes; seafood, meat and game as well as pasta. Once a week we'll make our own and feature it, as well as specials like spring lamb in season."

Well regarded for his seafood dishes, Pinci will be sure to please diners with his famed "zuppa di pesce", as well as spaghetti with sand crab and other piscine specials.

Prices are pitched at upmarket bistro level, Pinci says, with entrees from $9.50 to a shared antipasta platter at $21, and mains and specials around $35.

There's also a wine list featuring Australian and Italian wine, although BYO is offered at just $4 a head.
