Kyneton's Royal George Hotel is off the market. Owners Neil Henson and Jim Lekakis, who bought the business (not the freehold) in January 2009, put it on the market last year but have now decided to stay and rebrand the hotel, creating a casual dining room downstairs called Byng's Bar and Grill - named after Jack Byng, a gold digger from the 1800s Kyneton gold rush.

Byng's Bar and Grill has a menu built around locally grown meats cooked on the new charcoal grill, Henson says. Upstairs has become a fine-diner, the Wedgewood Room, named after the family who bought the pub in the 1870s when it operated as the Wedgewood Hotel.

The Wedgewood Room is open for Friday and Saturday dinners and Sunday lunches. Byng's is open for lunch Wednesday to Friday and Sunday, and for dinner Wednesday to Saturday.
