Sydney's Black Star Pastry to open Melbourne pop-up

Loading

Black Star Pastry, the once tiny Sydney patisserie that now has a cult nationwide following, has just announced a three month pop-up residency in Carlton.

Sure, the incredibly famous strawberry watermelon cake (see above) has only just been packed away after a hectic summer events schedule, but Melbourne has proved at the Night Noodle Markets that they just can't get enough of Christopher The's creation, so news of a more long-term pop-up will be welcome.

The Black Star team have picked a prime spot for the pop-up, which will open on February 20, and take over half of Carlton's Cafe Italia in the heart of student territory.

There will be seating for 20, coffee from Sydney's Little Marionette and, at least to begin with, their core range of sweet goods only. Savouries may come later, we're told, but this is primarily a water-testing mission that will hopefully lead to a full time store down the track.

As a bonus, they will also be giving Melbourne access to their online store where you can order large-scale celebration cakes. Froth away, pastry fans.

The Black Star Pastry pop-up will be located at 56-66 University Street, Carlton, from February 20, and will open Mon-Sat 9am-8pm; Sun 9am-3pm, blackstarpastry.com.au
