Game time! What do the following have in common? Tim Tams. Coco Pops. Twin Peaks.
Answer: All three have collaborated with Gelato Messina to create bonkers desserts.
In honour of director David Lynch's 1990 semi-supernatural soap-opera bizarro telly show returning to screens (via streaming service Stan) after 25 years, Gelato Messina stores in Newtown (NSW) and Richmond (VIC) will be transformed into the fictional Double R Diner featured in the original series.
For one day only in each store, Messina will be serving free Double R Diner gelato "cherry pie" (limited to 50 slices per venue) and three Twin Peaks-inspired flavours.
Good Food understands the stores will be completely kitted out to look like the diner, too. Expect wood panelling, fir-tree prints, replica staff uniforms and a red-and-white checkerboard floor. Perfect for photos in your best Audrey Horne skirt.
The diner will pop up at Messina's Newtown store on May 22. Melbourne fans will have to wait until May 25 for their slice of the action.
Both stores will serve the free Twin Peaks flavours between noon and 4pm, and 5pm to 10pm. The three flavours are:
She's Dead, Wrapped In Plastic: Vanilla gelato with raspberry gel and a blueberry sheet.
Damn Good Cup of Coffee: Doughnut gelato with coffee caramel crunch.
Norma's Incredible Cherry Pie: Cherry sorbet swirled with shortcrust gelato and layered with cherry compote.
No other gelati flavours will be available at the Newtown and Richmond stores during the pop-ups.
Monday, May 22 at Gelato Messina, 262 King Street Newtown; Thursday, May 25 at Gelato Messina, 164 Swan Street, Richmond.
