Doughnuts for sweet lovers following a gluten-free diet have been available for a while, but now vegans and vegan coeliacs can indulge guilt-free, too. Doughnut Time, the Brisbane-based chain that recently expanded into the southern states, has introduced a gluten-free, vegan doughnut to its range.

"The gluten-free and vegan movements are gaining momentum, and Doughnut Time wanted to cater to this expanding marketplace with an option that was both healthy and delicious," says owner Damian Griffiths.

Made without the traditional egg, milk or butter, the "Viva Las Vegan" has a coconut and raspberry glaze, topped with a pistachio crumb. It uses rice bran oil in the dough, and water as well as rice, corn, tapioca and maize flour, which eliminates all dairy, while coconut water replaces milk in the glaze.

Doughnut Time said the vegan doughnut, available now from stores nationwide for $6, will be a permanent feature of the menu.

Doughnut Time has locations in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne.
