Ever fancied eating food from some of Sydney's best restaurants at home? Now's your chance.

Think takeaway, and pizza and souvlaki might come to mind. But with people being asked to stay home to control the spread of COVID-19, some of Sydney's best restaurants and cafes are getting into the takeaway and delivery game.

Eating restaurant food at home requires a change of mindset, from enjoying the entire atmospheric experience of dining out to simply appreciating the food in our own surrounds.

Although closed, nel. restaurant is offering produce boxes to support local farmers and suppliers. The nel. box is a weekly food delivery service curated by chef Nelly Robinson with fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood direct from the people who grow, harvest, catch and process it. The Unicorn Hotel, Paddington

Some of Sydney's best pub grub is coming to you thanks to The Unicorn delivery. Whether you're craving the Unicorn meat pie floater, the Mary's signature burger and cheeseburger, or classics such as steak sandwiches, parmas and chicken schnitzels, the only thing that's missing is the NRL. Family catering company, Pen Catering, lost all its orders when corporates moved to working from home. To continue supporting their 25 staff, they've launched Essential Kitchen Sydney in their Neutral Bay kitchen, transforming the sandwich production area into a grocery store with essentials such as meat, bread, pasta, sauces, eggs and milk. They're also offering chef-made meals for $12, home delivered between 9am and 5pm daily, along with grocery boxes. Ho Jiak, Haymarket, Town Hall and Strathfield

Ho Jiak restaurants have launched a new menu available for take away and delivery on Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Dubbed the "survival menu", dishes such as char kway teow, Indomee goreng and Hainanese chicken rice are just $10. hojiak.com.au

Long Chim, Sydney

Cebu Lechon, Newtown

Takeaway Filipino fare is available during Lechon's trading hours when ordered online, with delivery coming on March 26. Each week, Firedoor is reaching out to its network of suppliers and local producers to create bountiful market boxes for customers ($150). In Sydney's eastern suburbs is this restaurant-slash-farm has started offering takeaway that caters to dietary restrictions, with all of its dishes gluten free. There are plenty of dairy-free, nut-free and vegan options also, plus they've extended their outdoor seating. From March 25, this sustainability-focused Pottsville restaurant will begin making Pipit care packages, which will change regularly and seasonally. Small boxes ($46) could contain housemade bread, butter, stock, preserves, pickles and unique produce from growers who don't usually sell to the public (such as Boon Luck Farm). Large boxes ($92) will have extra goodies such as cured meats, meal-kits and recipes,sauces, and ferments. Weekly orders close Monday 5pm for pick up on Wednesday between noon and 4pm or Thursday between 9am and 6pm.
