Where to get your French food fix this Bastille Day in Canberra

With July 14 falling on a Friday this year, it's the perfect opportunity to go out and sample some of the region's best French cuisine to celebrate Bastille Day. Here's what's on in Canberra:

Les Bistronomes in Braddon has a special four-course dinner of pork rillette en croute with parsley and garlic snail, a ​French onion soup with Gruyere cheese gougere, classic French beef burgundy, and cherry clafoutis for dessert. Dinner is $79 per person, plus $33 with matched French wines. Bookings: 02 6248 8119.

Le Tres Bon in Bungendore has a five-course plus aperitif dinner from 7pm, with a menu that includes foie gras creme brulee, French onion soup, duck confit with orange sauce, camembert with fresh black truffle, and griottes cherries clafoutis. And as is tradition, Chef Christophe is likely to come out of the kitchen to sing the French national anthem, La Marseillaise. Dinner is $95 per person, bookings at letresbon.com.au.

The Realm Precinct has French celebrations at both Ostani and Buvette Bistro and Wine Bar. Buvette will host a special four-course dinner on Bastille Day ($95 per person including a glass of champagne), followed by a Bastille Day Petit Feast on Saturday July 15 which includes live entertainment and Buvette's signature cocktail, the Lillet Mode De Vie ($60 per person). Bookings: 02 6163 1818. Next door, Ostani will screen every stage of the Tour de France on the big screens.

The Boat House is hosting a French-themed evening with a modern French menu featuring truffles from the Truffle Farm, French wine, and an interactive cheese and dessert station. Boat House chef John Leverink and sommelier Kate Hibberson will talk about the French influences on the menu, and cheese expert Olivier Bruge of Mart Delicatessen will host the evening. Dinner is $170 per person including food and wine. Bookings at theboathouse.restaurant/whatson.

Pialligo Estate is hosting a Moulin Rouge-inspired event in its Glasshouse, with a three-course French dinner and entertainment from 6.30pm. Tickets are $110 per person, which includes dinner plus a glass of champagne on arrival and entertainment, bookings at thepialligoestate.com.au (over 18s only).
