Some designers pay a fortune to affect an industrial-chic interior. Crowd-funded Wild Timor Coffee managed it on a shoestring. When the four former peacekeepers stripped the walls and removed the false ceiling, they found fashionably crumbling two-toned paintwork.

The cafe, open daily from 7am to 4pm, is a showcase for their coffee wholesale business and Timorese culture. Timorese sweets, such as caramel-drizzled banana cake, feature. The coffee is from plants introduced to East Timor by the Portuguese 500 years ago.
