It's been a White Rabbit, an Olive and now it's a hideout. Or rather a "Hyde Out". If early numbers are anything to go by, Yeronga locals are excited by the new eatery occupying the space recently vacated by The Olive.

The Hyde Out opened on October 20 and according to Brooke Lambert, one of four owners (the others are husband Spencer Lambert and Dianne and Mick Bain), they've been flat out ever since. The Lamberts own the building as well as a restaurant/pub fit-out business and decided that it was time to have a go themselves after The Olive closed, Brooke Lambert says.

"We all live in Yeronga ourselves and there wasn't really what we wanted in the area." That, according to Lambert, is "good service and lovely affordable food".

They've warmed up the decor from the the previously stark place it was, painting walls and ceilings dark and adding a stacked wood bar and a lounge area at the back. The idea, as the name suggests, is to be a local "hide out" Lambert says.

In the kitchen is Andrew McCabe, formerly of the Brewhouse, dishing out a menu with a strong share plate focus, with nothing over $28.

"We want to be a place for locals to come in to escape for a while, to hide out and have a drink and graze on a few things or have a nice meal. The feedback so far has been great, with so many locals saying they're really happy to have somewhere in the neighbourhood to come."

The Hyde Out is operating as both a bar and restaurant, with Holgate Pilsner and Punch and Judy Ale on tap, as well as Wither Hill Sauvignon Blanc and Innocent Bystander Pinot Gris on tap, in addition to a small wine list.
