Kitchen by Mike may have put Rosebery on the Sydney food map, but its long awaited inner-city rebirth will be at Kippax Street in Surry Hills.

Chef Mike McEnearney has remained impressively tight-lipped on the exact location of his planned inner-city start-up, which he's been quietly plotting at the same time as opening No.1 Bent Street in the city and fashioning a Kitchen by Mike satellite, which launches next month at Sydney International Airport.

McEnearney has lodged a DA with the City of Sydney to open Kitchen by Mike at 64-67 Kippax Street, in Surry Hills. The 180-seat restaurant will slide into the lower ground floor and boast a $1 million design. If the DA receives the green light, the restaurant is expected to open mid year.

McEnearney's Rosebery partners acquired his stake in the business in 2015, briefly making it Kitchen without Mike, but the Rosebery site has since been taken by Three Blue Ducks. McEnearney retained use of the Kitchen by Mike moniker, and was committed to reopening in other sites. Yet another score for postcode 2010.
