Roasted curried pumpkin, parsnip and chilli soup

Curried pumpkin, parsnip and chilli soup with tamari nuts.

The garnish for this soup is almost as important as the soup itself.

Brown-rice hand rolls

Brown rice hand rolls.

The nutty, chewy brown rice works so well with the ground tamari nuts in what are otherwise fairly classic sushi hand rolls.

Fennel and orange salad with currants and olives

salad-thumb

Fennel and navel oranges are both at their best in winter and happen to be delicious together. This refreshing salad is great with braised or slow-roasted lamb or pork.

Sticky chocolate gingerbread cake

chocolate-cake-thumb

All the best bits of gingerbread and chocolate cake in one cake! This has an almost brownie-like texture and is spicy, sticky and super moist.

Ratatouille

Rustic-style ratatouille.

Ratatouille is emblematic of sun-drenched Provence in southern France, but it's also a great full-flavoured dish for winter and one of my favourite ways of eating Mediterranean vegetables.
