Saturday night fare: Duck carnitas tacos.
Saturday night fare: Duck carnitas tacos.

Three long, gloomy months of winter. Right? Wrong!

Winter is one of the best times of year to spend some quality time with your kitchen. Put the radio on, or grab a selection of your favourite tunes and let the oven, good vibes and hearty smells warm you to the core.

Keep things simple and healthy during the week with pastas, risottos and soups that will be ready in less than half an hour. For something a bit fresher mid-week, Neil Perry's marinated pork cutlets (you can use chicken or flaky fish if you prefer) pair perfectly with a crunchy salad. You'll need to marinate the meat 30 minutes before cooking. The salad is a zesty combo of green papaya, shallots, mint, cashews, lemon, fish sauce and chilli.

Finally - it's Saturday. Enjoy a flavour-packed breakfast in the comfort of your own home. Frank Camorra's baked egg dish needs a bit of time in the oven, so brew a strong cup of coffee. Nippy out? Great weather for inviting friends or family around for a fun Mexican-style dinner with a ducky twist.
