In now: Currant grapes are juicy little pops of flavour, like sweet fruity caviar.

Not for long: As mango season comes to a close the harvest is spread far and wide, as are the options. As well as Kensington pride, look for R2E2, Pearl, Calypso, Honey Gold, and just briefly, Silky – a new hybrid variety available from Harris Farm markets.

Best buy: Lychee season is in full swing.

In the vegie patch: Proud of your tomatoes? Enter the Tastiest Home-Grown Tomato competition at the Tomato Festival in the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney this weekend. All you need just two ripe, tasty tomatoes. Take them in between 10am and 12 pm on Sunday February 21. Winners announced Sunday afternoon. Details at rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au.
