Like its cousin the mangosteen, achacha (above) is a sweet, tangy fruit inside a thick skin. The season started early this year and will finish soon.

Is the corn ready to pick? Peel back the husk and pierce a kernel with a thumbnail. If the kernel is soft and oozes a milky liquid, harvest and enjoy.
