Golden queen peaches used to be used for canning; now they are eaten fresh. Expect firm flesh and good flavour.

It’s been a great season for lychees. Buy them soft-skinned and bright pink and eat them chilled.

Snake beans never snap like a green bean; instead the fresh test is for firm, not foamy, flesh.

Watch out for citrus leaf miner in new growth on lemon trees. The grub leaves wavy silvery lines on foliage. Spray with pest oil.
