There's a theory that if coffee was discovered today it would be deemed an illegal substance due to its stimulating properties. True or not, I am thankful coffee has been consumed since about the 10th century and there seems little threat of it being outlawed. Jane Strode

Ingredients

premium vanilla-bean icecream
espresso coffee shot
(optional) a shot of your favourite liqueur, such as grappa, Sambuca or Frangelico

Method

Place one or two scoops of ice-cream in a latte glass or similar, prepare a shot of hot coffee (with an espresso machine, a stovetop coffee pot or very strong plunger coffee) and pour coffee over ice-cream. Optional extra is a shot of your favourite liqueur, such as grappa, Sambuca or Frangelico. Eat with a spoon.

Why do you think readers want a political comment about coffee's legality in a food article? Is this meant to have a go at the long overdue common sense laws which prohibit smoking tobacco in eateries? Is it having a go at health inspections of all food outlets?
If it is just entirely the journo's attempt to be amusing, it is an extremely lame and stale attempt. Please stick to comments about food and drinks.

  An excellent pick-me-up on a hot day, this is a hardy perennial for the summer months.

Affogato is our favourite not-quite-dessert/not-just-coffee when we're out. .Twice we've been served it with a couple of little biscotti on the side for dunking - I don't know why everbody doesn't do it. Perfection. A little textural yumminess to enhance the experience.
