A rich source of vegetable protein, lentils are an excellent food for babies. Ensure they are well cooked and consider including a little garlic and onion.
2 tablespoons lentils or split peas
2 tablespoons mashed mixed vegetables
milk or cooled boiled water cottage cheese (optional)
Rinse the lentils or split peas under cold running water and drain. Bring a saucepan of water to the boil, add the lentils or split peas and cook for 20–25 minutes, or until tender.
Drain, then process in a blender or small food processor with the vegetables and a little milk or cooled boiled water to give a smooth consistency. Add a little cottage cheese if desired and mix well.
As baby gets older, simply mash the cooked ingredients together with a fork to produce a lumpier consistency.
