Sauteed strawberries with black pepper and orange

Ingredients

  • 25g butter

  • 100g brown sugar

  • 160ml fresh orange juice

  • 2 tbsp kirsch or brandy

  • 2 tsp orange zest (finely grated)

  • 2 x 250g punnets strawberries (hulled and halved)

  • 10 grinds black pepper

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Method

  1. Melt butter in a large frying pan over low heat. Add brown sugar and fresh orange juice. Stir for 2 minutes, then add 2 tbsp kirsch or brandy and 2 tsp orange zest (finely grated). Add strawberries (hulled and halved) and stir to coat. Add about 10 grinds black pepper and cook for 3 minutes or until strawberries are glossy and juices are slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.

    To serve 

    Serve strawberries warm with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
