Aspiring around-the-world sailor Jessica Watson might do well to take note: next time you plan to set sail, forget the Tim Tams and instead stock up on ingredients for a flip.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of pale ale

  • 20ml single-malt whisky

  • Two egg whites

  • Ground nutmeg

Method

  1. Put ale in a saucepan and bring to boil. Reduce heat and leave to simmer. Meanwhile, beat egg whites until they foam and slowly add the warmed ale to the egg white, stirring so it doesn't curdle.

    Transfer to a beer mug and pour the mixture back and forth into a second beer mug until the drink is smooth. Add the whisky to the mixture and sprinkle ground nutmeg on top.
