Marrickville's Cornersmith already has a sack of awards, a cookbook and its own Picklery. Next stop is its long-awaited spin-off, which will open in Annandale midyear.

Co-owner Alex Elliott-Howery confirmed Cornersmith will open a new cafe in the former site of the convenience store on the corner of View and Piper streets, opposite Annandale's Hinsby Park.

"Yes, it had to be a corner site," she says. "We chose Annandale because we were looking for another suburb in the inner west with a really strong community."

As well as using the Cornersmith moniker, expect more of the original's devotion to seasonal cooking and produce from small-scale producers. "Being opposite the park was a big drawcard," Elliott-Howery says. "We'd like people to be able to grab something and head over to the park with a picnic blanket."

If planning and building go to plan, it will open in June or July. "We are a little bit obsessed with corner locations, we even live on a corner," she muses.
