Clonakilla the big winner at Canberra Wine Show 2015

Clonakilla put shiraz viognier on the map for Canberra but that wasn't the wine that brought home four trophies at this year's Canberra and Region Wine Show. Tim Kirk and his team have produced another stellar wine, the 2015 riesling, which was declared Champion Wine of Show at the awards dinner on Friday.

It also took home Best Dry White, Best Riesling and Best Canberra District Riesling. Clonakilla's 2015 viognier nouveau also took home the award for the Best Dry White Other Variety.

Another Clonakilla team member, winemaker Bryan Martin (also a Food & Wine columnist) won the Best Dry Red Blend or Variety trophy for his Charlie Foxtrot gamay noir. Martin's own label, Ravensworth, has been building critical acclaim for several years now.

Alex McKay's Collector Wines' 2013 reserve shiraz took home three awards, including the Dr Edgar Riek Trophy.

In the Murrumbateman Cool Climate Wine Show, the local honours went to Shaw Vineyard. Their 2015 riesling took out three prizes, including Best Wine of Show, Best White Wine of Show and Best Riesling.
